Disney Princesses: Olivia Style

As I begin the summer as Mr. Mom, I thought of different activities to do with the kids. One of today's activities was drawing and coloring.  We decided that we were going to draw princesses. I grabbed the DVD cases of the princesses that Olivia wanted to draw so she had some reference as to what they looked like and we drew and colored away! (I'll spare you my versions of the princesses!) She also wanted to add their names to the pictures so I helped her spell them. She did all the writing herself.

Welcome Summer

Today was Olivia's last day of preschool, Sylvia's last day at Pam's, and Matt's last day at the middle school...until next fall. As they all exited this morning, I had to reflect on all that's happened in the last 9 or so months. It's been an amazing 9 months and now we get to enjoy summer! Stay tuned for all of our fun, warm weather activities.

Life as We Know It?

This weekend I researched the topic of peak oil. If you are unfamiliar with this term, please Google "peak oil" or read this. Imagine a world without oil. Can you? This is something that will happen; it is unavoidable. If you are post-middle age, you may not see the dramatic effects in your lifetime but I am confident that my children and their children will live in a world drastically different from my own or anyone who has lived the past 200 years has known. Please take the time to educate yourself because if we don't prepare ourselves now, what do we leave to our children?

If you are interested in documentaries check these out:

This is an amazing documentary and I highly recommend watching it. There is a great trailer for the documentary on the site above. The documentary is available to rent on iTunes for $2.99. It is available to watch instantly on Netflix if you have an account or you can watch it for free here:

As you can imagine, the clarity of my mind is unmatched and I simply don't forget things. So I won't share that I did not forget my library card on our outing to the library this week. Ya, kids love leaving the library empty-handed. And furthermore, after arriving at Olivia's dance class on Wednesday afternoon, I did not realize that I had brought her to dance without her dance bag (which holds her ballet and tap shoes) for the 2nd time in 3 weeks.

Being a total professional, you would not have found me in tears more than once at work in the unit last weekend. What kind of basketcase goes around bawling in the presence of my colleagues and patients? ahem

Given my background, it's no surprise that I'm a hygienic freak! Attempting to model this trait and pass it on to my children, I had to say "No" to sissy when she wanted to wear her swimsuit like her big sister. "What if you potty on your leg?", I asked her. How unsanitary would it be to let our un-toilet trained 2 year-old run around diaperless outside while she "helped" her daddy wash his car?

Speaking of that diaperless 2 year-old, I won't disgust and intrigue you all with the fact that said child had fecal matter, urine, and lipstick smeared all over her legs within 24 hours, but none at the same time. Don't ask!

Sticking to my completely traditional nature, I did not let my husband cook supper, clean up supper, or do the laundry several times in the last week. I don't need help with such things. I can do it ALL!

This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

8th Grade Promotion

Last night was our annual 8th grade promotion. It is one of my favorite nights of the year. I get to watch the kids that I have worked with for the last three years enjoy a special evening that honors them. What I enjoyed most, however, was the practice for promotion night. I get to spend all morning with my 8th graders teaching them the procedure for the evening. It's a very casual and relaxing time to spend with the kids and we have a little fun with it too. So congratulations to all the 8th graders and good luck to you all in high school.

I decorated my board for the kids.

Don't they look so excited?
