Homecoming

This week was homecoming week at school. On Friday we took some time out of our day to celebrate with lunch outside, games, and finally a trip to Colfax to watch the parade.

The Middle School float.

Getting hot dogs for lunch.

We have a door decorating competition each year. My class took first place. Two years in a row and 3 out of 5! Nice work!

All my pictures are here.

Bath, BIBLE, Boots, and Baby's First Tooth

Here is some video that Ab took of the girls singing the BIBLE song after their bath.

Here is some video of Joe being his smiley self after his bath.

Nice rain boots Sylvia!

No outfit is complete without your crown!

Can you see his little tooth??

Here's a closer look.

What a weekend!

We caught the girls in a peaceful, non-squabling moment as they gazed out Grandma Lola's back door, enjoying their "fresh from the orchard" apples.

Not many pictures were snapped, but we do have proof here that we were out together...minus kids!

Joey has the biggest news. He visited the pediatrician on Friday and was determined to have a sinus infection with retracted tympanic membranes (eardrums) requiring a 10-day course of Amoxicillin:( Since he's so easy going, we figured we could still get away with leaving him the Grandma Lola overnight while we traveled. He and the girls did fine, and Joey had a present for us when we returned on Sunday morning. I noticed right away he had cut a tooth overnight!!! Way to go boy...only 19 more to go:)

I've discovered prepared pesto!

This quick and yummy sandwich really hit the spot tonight. Let me know what you think of it when you make it!

Chicken Pesto Sandwich

6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4oz each)
3/4 cup prepared pesto, divided
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
12 slices Italian bread, toasted
1 (12 oz)jar roasted sweet red peppers, drained
1/4 lb. fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into six slices

  • Flatten chicken to 1/4-in. thickness. Spread 1 T. pesto over each chicken breast; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill chicken, covered, over medium heat for 3-5 minutes on each side or until juices run clear.
  • Spread 3 T. pesto over six slices of toast; layer with red peppers, chicken, cheese. Spread remaining pesto over remaining toast; place over top.

Sun-bathing

Their sweet little hearts must know the warm days are coming to an end. Olivia initiated this sun-bathing practice yesterday, and repeated it today with Sylvia. (don't look too closely at what they're wearing...I've become lax on making them change out of their "dress-up" clothes before playing outside).

Iowa State vs Iowa

Once again the touted intrastate rivalry returned to Ames this weekend. It's always amazing to see this event because of the thousands of people it draws. So many people in fact, that we get in line for the 11 am game at 10:30 pm the night before! Talk about an endurance test. I managed to catch a few winks in the truck before they started parking us at 2 am. We parked, set up our pop-ups and jumped back in the truck for a few more winks. Thanks to some very cordial Hawk fans, my dreams were filled with extremely loud, poor music, and the Iowa fight song every 1o minutes. Gotta love the experience. It was great to see my friends again and another ISU game with the family. Unfortunately it wasn't our day. The Cyclones couldn't pull it together and made a lot of costly errors to put the game out of reach. Live and learn Cyclones.

Cyclone Boys

Matt came home from work last night and was appauled that his son (really all the children) was not sporting their Cyclone garb. We made a quick wardrobe change and got some pictures, more here, before the game started:) Joseph looks as good in cardinal and gold as his daddy! Love seeing ISU start the season off with a "W"!

7 months old

I must say we think our boy is the most amazing baby on the planet! Besides sitting up like a pro, he's beginning to scoot around on his tummy, chasing his toys around the room at a snail's pace.

He's very intense about everything (much like his sister Olivia) but cuddly and cool (like his other sister Sylvia).

Joey's a good eater too and has been enjoying 2 food feedings a day. He's passed the tolerance test with rice cereal, oatmeal, peas, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas, and mashed potatoes.

Little man is around 20lbs and wears 12 month clothes/jammies now. I think we need to start buying size 4 diapers instead of 3's, as he's pooed out several times in the last few days.

Still no teeth, but I don't think they're too far off. There's been tons of mad chewing and drooling buckets!

We're taking requests for more information:)
